Prison Ministry Program

During my visit to Madagascar I also presented a plan to enlarge the Prison Ministry Program.  Currently it focuses only on the ministry needs of the prisoners, which is of course very important.  In addition, last year we became involved in the humanitarian needs of the prisons in Madagascar.  We discovered the lack of adequate living conditions within the prisons:

  • one meal a day with poor nutritional value
  • overcrowded sleeping conditions
  • lack of air ventilation
  • poor sewer system
  • lack of daily activities to keep the prisoners occupied with worthwhile time
  • long retention times (being in prison and never having an appointment with a lawyer or judge for pretrial, etc.)

The conditions are not good.  So, we recommended that we establish a second structure to deal with these humanitarian issues.  The goal is to form an expanded and new program within the Prison Ministry.
