John Dyrnes School

The John Dyrnes School in Bezaha started in the mid-1960s, by medical missionaries of the Lutheran Free Church and the American Lutheran Church. It was originally located in Manasoa, but moved 36 miles further west to Bezaha due to inaccessibility.

In 2019 there were 98 students. In 2023, there were 378 students in grades K-12. One of the unique features of this school is that it sits on the same campus as a Lutheran Seminary. Currently, 42 students have parents enrolled in the seminary. This presents a significant financial burden for these parents because they have to pay their own tuition to the seminary as well as their children’s tuition to Dyrnes School. Beginning in the third quarter of 2023, Friends of Madagascar Mission began a program of paying the seminarian children’s tuition at a cost of $351.08 per quarter.

Students at Dyrnes School

We are sharing with the people in Madagascar because we can.

Funding from Friends of Madagascar Mission pays for the tuition for Dyrnes School students whose parents are enrolled in the seminary.

A future project may be to build a fence around the schoolyard to keep cattle from running through the schoolyard and endangering the children.
