WATER, WATER, EVERYWHERE, except in south-west Madagascar!

We take water for granted. We turn on the water faucet and let it run to get cold or hot, let it run for long periods of time. In south-west Madagascar the people have plenty of water when it is the rainy season, if that season even comes to them; so water is not abundant. When the water ponds, rivers dry up they have to walk kilometers to get water. Children walk with small pails to get water, the drink out of mud puddles that are left in low spots on the ground; water is a precious commodity.

Recently FOMM was privileged to hire Madagascar Water Project, let by an American who began this non-profit organization to dig a well in the city of Betroka, Madagascar. They use electronic equipment to find fissures in the hard granite rock beneath the top soil to locate where there may be access to water that comes forth depth from within the earth. The well was 26 meters deep and the water shot up into the air. The people looked on in unbelief that there was that much water coming out of the the rocky ground. FOMM then build a water distribution system including a water tower to supply 5 church programs: a clinic that we are building, the Betroka Synod office, a grade school, a high school and a Toby (a spiritual renewal center that cares for the poor and the mentally ill). In addition we build toilets and shower facilities and public water stations for the community to share in the wealth of newly found water! The people celebrated water, God’s gift to them.

Thanks to those who have provided the funding for this project. We are currently working on another water distribution system. Our plans are to also fund new water wells and restoring broken down ones in villages in the area of Betroka.

Please visit the Water Wells webpage to learn how to donate to support this water well program. Thanks!
